Solar panels are self-cleaning only in theory. On the coast, salt spray dries on the glass; inland, it is dust, pollen and bird droppings. A film you can barely see is enough to cost you a noticeable slice of your generation over a year.
We clean panels with deionised water and a soft brush head. No detergents go anywhere near the cells, nothing is walked on, and on most domestic roofs the whole job is done from the ground with an extension pole.
Once a year is enough for most installations. Panels beneath trees, near a main road or on a coastal frontage do better with two visits.
